xbindkeys is a program that lets you bind hotkeys to actions.

Install xbindkeys

Create a Default Configuration file

Configuration file

Start xbindkeys

start xbindkeys in your ~/.xinitrc, you should do this:

xbindkeys &

The & means it will start in the background and the rest of your script will continue to run.
