NAS - QNAP - Replace all hard drives to expand the RAID group size
You can replace all hard disk members with a larger capacity hard disk to increase the storage capacity limit of the RAID group.
This operation can be operated online without interrupting data access or any NAS services.
- Navigate to Main Menu → Storage and Snapshots → Storage/Snapshots.
- Make sure that all hot spare hard drives and global hot spare hard drives assigned to this RAID group are disabled.
- Choose a storage pool or a single statically configured volume.
- Click Manage.
- Choose a RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6 or RAID 10 group.
- Select Manage → Replace hard drives one by one.
- Select the hard drive to be replaced.
- Confirm that the capacity of the new hard drive is greater than the capacity of the hard drive to be replaced.
- Click Change.
- This will display Please pull out this hard drive.
- Remove the hard drive from the slot.
- The NAS will beep twice.
- This will display Please insert a new hard drive.
- Insert the new hard disk into the same slot.
- The NAS will beep twice.
- The status of the hard disk and RAID group will display Under reconstruction.
- Wait for the reconstruction to complete.
WARNING: Do not remove any hard drives during the RAID group reconstruction process.
- Hard drive status changed back[good].
- Repeat the above steps to replace all hard disks in the RAID group.
- After replacing all hard drives and the rebuilding operation is complete, you can use the Expand Capacity button.
- Click Expand Capacity.
- The confirmation message appears.
- Click OK.
- The NAS will beep, and the RAID group status will change to synchronizing.
WARNING: Do not turn off the power of the NAS or remove any hard drives while the hard drives are being synchronized.
- The RAID group status will change to Ready.
