Various rating systems are used to determine the strength of a player, or chess computer.

These include:

• elo: FIDE.
• uscf: United States Chess Federation.
• ecf: English Chess Federation.
• bcf: British Chess Federation (no longer exists).
• cfc: Canadian Chess Federation.

To determine how strong a Chess Program is, a standard will need to be used in order to compare against other players.
