====== Gnome - Extensions - Install GNOME Shell extensions from a web browser ====== GNOME project has an entire website dedicated to extensions. Open any web browser in your system and navigate to the following address: GNOME Shell Extensions Website ---- ===== Step 1: Install browser add-on ===== When you visit the GNOME Shell Extensions website, a message similar to the following will be shown: To control GNOME Shell extensions using this site you must install GNOME Shell integration that consists of two parts: browser extension and native host messaging application. **NOTE:** Click the **Click here to install browser extension**. * A prompt may appear, asking to **Continue to Installation**, and accept this. * Another prompt to **Add** may be shown, and again accept this. **NOTE:** An error may be seen informing the native host connector is missing. * If this case, install the native host connector: sudo apt install chrome-gnome-shell * The **chrome** prefix in the package name has nothing to do with Chrome. * You do not have to install a separate package for Firefox or Opera here. * This system should now be ready to install Gnome shell extensions. * Open any extension that you want to install by clicking on it. ---- ===== Add Extensions in the Browser ===== Simply click on the suggested add-on link in the web browser. * When you visit the extension page, it should show a toggle button. * Click on it and this should prompt if you want to install this extension: * Once installed, the toggle button should be ON, and there may be a setting option available next to it, where you can configure the extension. * This toggle can also disable the extension from within the Browser. **NOTE:** A recommendation is to sort the extensions by your GNOME Shell version. * To search for latest versions of extensions to ensure better compatibility with newer version of GNOME. * The settings of an extension can be configured in the Browser, but also in GNOME Tweaks tool. **NOTE:** Extensions can also be installed them from the link below: * For Google Chrome, Chromium, and Vivaldi: Chrome web store. * For Firefox: Mozilla Addons. * For Opera: Opera Addons. ---- ===== See Installed Extensions ===== You can see all your installed extensions on the website under installed extensions section. **NOTE:** One major advantage of using the GNOME Extensions website is that you can see if there is an update available for an extension. * This wont be shown in the GNOME Tweaks tool or system update. * You can also delete the extensions that you installed via web browser here.
